How To Be A Peacemaker During Chaos

It’s the year of 2020. There’s been a lot of unexpected things come up this year—both good and bad. This year if we’ve learned anything, we’ve learned that we can’t control the things that happen around us or throughout the world—but we can control how we respond and the presence we bring into the world.

The Hebrew word for peace, shalom, refers to harmony. When you feel like everything around you is working together—you are living in harmony, and this is such a beautiful feeling.

When the world around you is in chaos, you feel anxious, tense, uptight, etc. Throughout the chaos, there’s 3 ways you can choose to act.

  1. Stir the chaos by also responding with/ in fear.

  2. Ignoring the chaos where you hide all emotions or thoughts.

  3. Be a peacemaker with empathy + positivity.

The thing is, if you are reading this post, you have the genuine desire to be a peacemaker.

You are searching for more ways to be a light to others around you.

HERE’S 5 WAYS TO BE A PEACEMAKER DURING CHAOS:

1. Get to know the people around you—especially people that’s different than you

Genuinely get to know others around you. Build trust with that person. That way, when chaos does arise, you have a better understanding of where they are coming from + how others choose to respond—as well as—have the mutual relationship to be of positive influence.

Things to think of:

  • What drives the way they feel?

  • What background do they come from that affects the way they feel?

2. Communicate with empathy

Empathy allows you to put yourself in others position. When you do this, you are able to take a step back from your beliefs, and try to understand where they are coming from. Again, this allows you to build trust + a relationship with others that gives you greater influence.

3. Listen, listen + listen more

The best peacemakers are one who listens more than speaks. 100%. Allow others to feel heard with you. Ask them questions that help you understand where they are coming from.

4. Allow space + self care

When you have the heart for being a peacemaker, you give so much energy to others around you. It is vital that you take the time to fill up your cup so to say. Pour into yourself as much as you are pouring into others. If you pour from an empty cup, you are more likely to respond or react in a way that doesn’t align with your values or beliefs.

5. Connect with your inner peace

aka your spirituality. Your creator. The Higher Intelligence that you believe in. When you connect with your inner peace, it aligns you with your values and who you are created to be. You are more than likely to take on the presence or spirit of this peace, and overflow it to those around you.

Every good + strong leader have the quality of being a peacemaker. Choose to be a light to those around you. Instead of stirring the chaos, shine light on it + create harmony.
